Watch: 2 Clips From ?Killer Joe? Showcase Twisted Tone, Better Look At Thomas Haden Church and Juno Temple?s Characters

In a film as filled to the brim with deliciously nasty characters and dialogue as ?Killer Joe,? it?s been frustrating to see it marketed down through snatches of seemingly generic action beats and lines in the trailer. Luckily though, two new clips have appeared to give a better sense of the film?s tone overall, as well as a nice look at the scene-chewing from its excellent cast.

The first clip runs two minutes, and revolves around the Smith family as they let a failed insurance policy payout raise tensions even more, mostly from father Ansel (Thomas Haden Church) toward his son Chris (Emile Hirsch). Gina Gershon and Juno Temple portray the other members of the family, and if everything seems a bit arch and blackly comic, then the second clip with Temple confirms as much. As Temple cheerily explains her matricidal support later to Matthew McConaughey?s Killer Joe, the drolly terrifying assassin asked by Chris to off his mom for her insurance money, the enthusiasm from her and McConaughey over their twisted roles is crystal-clear and great to watch.

That goes for everyone in the film as well, and it?s a testament to director William Friedkin that it never falls too far into grindhouse schlock (although there are moments that toe the line). It?s an immensely dark, hilarious flick, and one that will need all the help it can get when the NC-17 thriller opens July 27 in the US for a limited run. Google Nexus 7 developed in just 4 months, sold essentially at cost price

So, the Google Nexus 7 is the hot ticket right about now. And so it should be. Despite the substantial leaks and rumors leading up to yesterdays announcement -- including the accidental posting of that ?video, it still blew the doors off when Hugo Barra officially unveiled it duriong the day 1 keynote at Google I/O. A stock Google tablet, running the latest version of Android, sold cheaply, and directly from Google. It's almost too good to be true, but, how did the Nexus 7 come about? In short, pretty quickly. 

Andy Rubin, and Asus Chairman, Jonney Shih, have been speaking to ?AllThingsD ?about the origins of the Nexus 7. Google provided Asus with the challenge -- build a high end tablet, that could sell at $200, and they had just 4 months to get it done. 

Shih also sent members of his team to work at Mountain View, so as to put them closer to Google, and to have a 24 hour development cycle. While it seems as though Asus may just have pulled off mission impossible, Rubin has heaped the praise onto the Taiwanese OEM. 

He said that I don’t think there would have been any other partner that could move that fast.,” and that “we went from zero to working product in four months.” Whichever way you look at it, 4 months to release a completely new product from scratch, running a completely new version of Android, is pretty darn impressive. Hats off, to Asus. 

Rubin also acknowledges the lack of a content ecosystem, has played a big part in the, thus far, poor uptake of Android tablets. With the release of a $200 tablet, and the additional content announced for Google Play, Google have themselves a device that could compete on a level playing field with the Amazon Kindle Fire. And, a high-end device at that. 

And then comes the money. In getting a high end device out at a rock bottom price, the Nexus 7 will be sold with next to no margins. Being sold through the Play Store, Google also absorbs all the marketing costs of the Nexus 7. One of the big questions on every ones lips now is, what will this do to the Android tablet market as a whole?

A law school professor of mine once suggested a stock answer to the inevitable question posed by potential clients who believe their rights have been violated:? ?Can they do that??

?Well,? the stock answer goes, ?did they do it?? If they did, then we know they can.?

That simply reality becomes relevant when assessing the Lions? options for dealing with a roster that has generated six ? six! ? arrests this offseason, with defensive back Aaron Berry (pictured) the most recent defendant.? Teams that choose not to get tough with players who get in trouble hide behind the CBA, claiming that there?s nothing that teams can do and that they must defer to the league on off-field conduct.

Technically, that?s right.? (With one exception, to be mentioned below.)? As a practical matter, it?s a cop out.

Teams ?can? take a wide variety of steps to punish a player, CBA be damned.? The most convenient device is the catch-all ?conduct detrimental to the team.?? While the player could challenge any fines or suspensions, claiming that the team is skirting the substance-abuse and/or personal-conduct policies, such efforts could serve only to make the situation worse for the player.? It also would create the distinct impression that the player isn?t accepting responsibility for his actions, which may not go over well with the fans.

For the team, it sends a strong message that bad behavior won?t be tolerated.

There?s precedent for team?s disregarding league policies when players allegedly disregard the law.? In 2008, the Steelers benched receiver Santonio Holmes with pay for a marijuana arrest.? In 2010, the Colts suspended punter Pat McAfee for one game without pay after an alcohol incident.? Neither action was authorized by the CBA; neither player fought his punishment.

Last year, the Vikings initially suspended cornerback Chris Cook for conduct detrimental to the team after an arrest for domestic violence, which clearly falls within the scope of the personal-conduct policy.? Then, the Vikings gave Cook the Keyshawn treatment, paying the 2010 second-round pick not to play for the balance of the season (and in turn nearly tearing the locker-room apart).? Cook didn?t fight it, though he easily could have.

So the Lions ?can? fine or suspend, with or without pay, any of the players who have gotten arrested, if the Lions want to.? To date, they don?t.

The Lions also ?can? without consequence engage in one specific form of discipline after a player gets in trouble away from the field.? Paragraph 9 of the Standard Player Contract provides that, ?if Player has engaged in personal conduct reasonably judged by Club to adversely affect or reflect on Club, Club may terminate this contract.?

Though it may not be wise to start cutting talented players, the Lions eventually may decide to make an example out of one or more of their less-skilled problem children.

Regardless, if/when the Lions or any other team claim they can?t take action against players who get in trouble off the field, the reality is that, indeed, they can.

Electronic dance music stars from around the world joined fans this weekend in paying homage to Swedish House Mafia, after the Holy Trinity of House announced via their website that their upcoming tour will be their last.

"Today we want to share with you that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved," the message reads.

Together the Swedes — Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso joined their prolific individual talents into one of dance music's most commercially successful and intriguing brands, leading the charge of EDM's American takeover. With five widely successful singles in two years, SHM dominated traditional music festivals like Coachella, sold out Madison Square Garden and hosted their own Masquerade Motel mini-festivals attended by tens of thousands in Miami.

SHM's announcement was hard to believe considering their biggest career undertaking is still before them: a July show at Milton Keynes Bowl in England, which holds 65,000 people.

"I just heard @swedishousemfia are gonna split. I hope it's not true They are really special," David Guetta tweeted on Saturday.

DJ Chuckie tweeted, "Sad news for electronic music, i just heard that the @swedishousemfia just announced they gonna break up!"

Some DJ/producers used the occasion to celebrate how far Swedish House Mafia has come, even thanking them for their tutelage and inspiration.

"Well ... @swedishousemfia will be a legend for ever!" Zedd wrote.

"Just wanted to tip my hat (the A-Trak hat) to @swedishousemfia. They invited me to MSG which was huge. Those are my bros. *#bros," A-Trak tweeted, referencing his opening duties at MSG last December.

Hardwell tweeted, "We gonna miss you @swedishousemfia! You've been a huge inspiration for me, every producer and the whole music scene! #wecameweravedweloved."

But the fun is far from over. There is much to look forward to from Swedish House Mafia, including their Sydney, Australia-inspired new single, possibly titled "Don't You Worry Child" per an SHM tweet and our good friends at Dancing Astronaut. Upcoming tour dates include the aforementioned Milton Keynes Bowl in England (July 14), recurring weekly dates at Ushuaia in Ibiza (July 4 through August 29) and a final leg of their tour (presumably including farewell dates in the U.S.) to be announced in August.
